Kentucky Title Transfer
We encourage all parties to be present at the time of transfer​
The following documents are required when transferring Kentucky titled vehicles:

Current Kentucky Certificate of Title

TC96-182 (VTR Form) for the small Kentucky titles
-
Purchaser must have current Kentucky proof of insurance on the vehicle (effective date within 45 days)
-
Driver's License (or State ID) for all involved parties (sellers and buyers)
-
Termination Statement/Lien Release for any liens on title
-
Any specialty plate issued to the vehicle must be turned in
-
Must transfer in either buyer or seller's county of residence

Out of State Title Transaction
The following documents are required when transferring:

Current out of state title
-
TC96-182 (VTR Form) signed by seller and buyer and notarized (just title owner signature needed if moving in)
-
Certified Kentucky Sheriff's Inspection for vehicular units (Bullitt Co. Sheriff's Department 502-543-2514)
-
Kentucky Fire Marshal Inspection for used recreational trailer units, Motor Homes and Mobile Homes (502-573-1795)
-
Use Tax Affidavit (51A280) for trailers, boats, mobile homes and ATVs
-
Out of State Revenue Documents if tax collected by the other state
-
Proof of tax paid to other state for individuals moving into Kentucky (contact clerk for more information)

Purchaser must have current Kentucky proof of insurance on the vehicle (effective date within 45 days)

Driver's License (or State ID) for all involved parties (sellers, if present and buyers)
-
Termination Statement/Lien Release for any liens on title
-
Must be transferred in the purchaser's county of residence

New Title Transaction
The following documents are required when transferring:

Manufacturer's Certificate of Origin properly assigned from seller to buyer
-
TC96-182 (VTR Form) signed by seller and buyer and notarized
-
Window Sticker or MSRP for sale price if applicable
-
Certified Kentucky Sheriff's Inspection for out of state vehicular units (Bullitt Co. Sheriff's Department 502-543-2514)
-
Use Tax Affidavit (51A280) for trailers, boats, mobile homes and ATVs from out of state
-
Out of State Revenue Documents if tax collected by the other state
-
Purchaser must have current Kentucky proof of insurance on the vehicle (effective date within 45 days)

Driver's License (or State ID) for all involved parties (sellers, if present and buyers)
-
Must be transferred in the purchaser's county of residence

Duplicate Title Transaction
The following documents are required when applying for a replacement title:

TC96-182 (VTR Form) signed by owner and notarized
-
Driver's License or State ID for owner
-
$8.00 duplicate title fee

Update Title Transaction
The following documents are required when applying for a replacement title:
-
Current Kentucky Certificate of Title signed by owner and notarized​
-
TC96-182 (VTR Form) signed by owner and notarized for small Kentucky titles
-
Official paperwork for Title update (name change documents, official vehicle documents if correcting vehicle info)

Driver's License or State ID for owner

$8.00 update title fee

Salvage Title Transaction
The following documents are required when applying for a replacement title:

Current Kentucky Certificate of Title

If transaction is due to sale of the vehicle, need all places signed by seller and buyer and notarized​

If transaction is owner doing salvage, need owner to sign in section and have notarized
-
-
TC96-182 (VTR Form) signed and notarized for small Kentucky titles
-
Driver's License or State ID for all involved parties
-
License Plate for the vehicle
-
Termination Statement/Lien Release for any liens on title
