Project Title

The Kentucky Project Title was launched on February 23, 2009. Per KRS 186A.535 "any owner of a motor vehicle that meets the definition of a classic motor vehicle project may apply for a Classic Motor Vehicle Project Certificate of Title".

Definition of Classic Motor Vehicle Project(KRS 186A.535)

  • Vehicle is at least twenty-five (25) years old
  • Not in roadworthy condition
  • Currently in this state and not titled or being brought into this state with a regular title from another state (title cannot contain a brand of salvage, junk, rebuilt or other similar designation)
  • Classic Motor Vehicle Project Certificate of Title will state "CLASSIC MOTOR VEHICLE PROJECT-NOT FOR ROAD USE"

If a vehicle meets the required definition the customer must complete the following documentation:

  • Completed Application for Title/Registration (VTR Vehicle Transaction Record-Form # TC96-182)
  • Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) verified by Sheriff's Department

Once the vehicle is restored and in roadworthy condition, the owner must complete the following requirements before the vehicle may be operated on Kentucky highways.

The following documentation is required:

  • Completed Application for Title/Registration (VTR Vehicle Transaction Record-Form # TC96-182)
  • Complete physical inspection by the Sheriff's Department meeting compliance requirements set by KRS 186A.115 and KRS 186A550(8).

New title will be a regular Certificate of Title with no special brand
